Description
Retrovibe Piccolo Stratbass 4+2 string.
I finally got round to putting this together using some used parts I had in the office.
It’s a 25.5” scale Piccolo bass, tuned E2 A2 D3 G3 like the lowest four strings on a guitar but I’ve added a second string course on the D and G, tuned an octave up, so you get that chorusey 12-string sound on those strings. It also works well with the second strings tuned in unison to the D an G but I like the extended range of the octave up.
As a bass player this is great fun to play as the higher register and additional strings make melodies sing out. It would also make a good, compact travelling companion.
The neck and body are not from the same guitar so I have used a small plastic shim to make the heel joint snug.
I’ve just thrown on some strings I had lying around but have ordered some EB Magnum Slinkys for bass beef and a string tree to tidy up the top end.
This bass is available to buy for £225 plus shipping so drop me a line if you’re interested. It’s a great bang for the buck.
